In order to facilitate the computations of the intensities of radiation reflected and/or transmitted by plane-parallel, vertically inhomogenous, scattering-absorbing media, we carry out the optical thickness integrations of the Cauchy systems (normally referred to as Invariant Imbedding Equations) for reflection and transmission functions originating from the first three orders of scattering: the medium in question is represented by a stack of a certain number of homogeneous slabs, each of which is characterized by a constant single scattering albedo and a constant phase function together with the optical thickness.The results are a set of recurrence formulae involving only the angular intergrations, a convenient feature for numerical computations, and should prove useful particularly for finding approximate values of the high frequency Fourier coefficients of reflection and transmission functions of inhomogeneous media or efficiently initializing the solution for a thin layer to perform rigorous multiple scattering computations by means of other techniques such as the Doubling-Adding method.  相似文献

A complete set of transfer equations required for the order-of-scattering analysis of partially polarized radiation in inhomogeneous, anisotropically scattering atmospheres is provided. The equations have been derived for both a local study using the radiative transfer equation and its associated auxiliary equation for the source-matrix, and a global study in terms of the scattering and transmission matrices; they account for the polarity of the scattering medium. Their derivations for the finite order scattering and the finitely cumulative scattering, in particular, have yielded important new equations expressing the invariance principles and the integro-differential recurrences for the scattering and transmission matrices. These novel expressions contain as a special case Bellmanet al's (1972) equations for the simpler case of isotropic scattering of unpolarized light in homogeneous atmospheres.  相似文献

We present a new method for the automatic identification and classification of dynamic Hα dark features found in time series of full-disk solar images at three Hα wavelengths (center, and ± 0.8 Å). The simultaneous Hα observations are obtained by the multi-channel Flare Monitoring Telescope (FMT) at Hida Observatory. The program was developed in order to replace the present visual detection and classification of the phenomena. Usually, an obvious dark feature found in the Hα ?0.8 Å observations probably corresponds to some phenomenon such as a surge or chromospheric network enhancement, or filament activity. Thus, one of our aims in this program is to distinguish each phenomenon by its own properties and key parameters. We optimized the threshold values of the key parameters such as the area and darkness of the transiently darkening features in Hα ?0.8 Å so that the computer can reasonably identify surges and filament activations. In comparison, for a 7-day observation period, the number of dark events detected by the program contains 89% of the events recognized visually. However, 10 times more events are detected automatically. The missing events are mainly caused by the deletion of data with poor visibility. It is found that the dark events can be identified with more precise starting and ending times by a machine than by a human. Some statistical studies of surges or other activities can be carried out based on the computer-produced database. With some modifications the program can be applied to monitor real-time dynamic features on disk, including flare ribbons.  相似文献

Carbon isotope chemostratigraphy has been used for worldwide correlation of Precambrian/Cambrian (Pc/C) boundary sections, and has elucidated significant change of the carbon cycle during the rapid diversification of skeletal metazoa (i.e. the Cambrian Explosion). Nevertheless, the standard δ13C curve of the Early Cambrian has been poorly established mainly due to the lack of a continuous stratigraphic record. Here we report high-resolution δ13C chemostratigraphy of a drill core sample across the Pc/C boundary in the Three Gorge area, South China. This section extends from an uppermost Ediacaran dolostone (Dengying Fm.), through a lowermost Early Cambrian muddy limestone (Yanjiahe Fm.) to a middle Early Cambrian calcareous black shale (Shuijingtuo Fm.). As a result, we have identified two positive and two negative isotope excursions within this interval. Near the Pc/C boundary, the δ13Ccarb increases moderately from 0 to + 2‰ (positive excursion 1: P1), and then drops dramatically down to − 7‰ (negative excursion 1: N1). Subsequently, the δ13Ccarb increases continuously up to about + 5‰ at the upper part of the Nemakit–Daldynian stage. After this positive excursion, δ13Ccarb sharply decreases down to about − 9‰ (N2) just below the basal Tommotian unconformity. These continuous patterns of the δ13C shift are irrespective of lithotype, suggesting a primary origin of the record. Moreover, the obtained δ13C profile, except for the sharp excursion N2, is comparable to records of other sections within and outside of the Yangtze Platform. Hence, we conclude that the general feature of our δ13C profile best represents the global change in seawater chemistry. The minimum δ13C of the N1 (− 7‰) is slightly lower than carbon input from the mantle, thus implying an enhanced flux of 13C-depleted carbon just across the Pc/C boundary. Hence, the ocean at that time probably became anoxic, which may have affected the survival of sessile or benthic Ediacaran biota. The subsequent δ13C rise up to + 5‰ (P2) indicates an increase of primary productivity or an enhanced rate of organic carbon burial, which should have resulted in lowering pCO2 and following global cooling. This scenario accounts for the cause of the global-scale sea-level fall at the base of the Tommotian stage. The subsequent, very short-term, and exceptionally low δ13C (− 9‰) in N2 could have been associated with the release of methane from gas hydrates due to the sea-level fall. The inferred dramatic environmental changes (i.e., ocean anoxia, increasing productivity, global cooling and subsequent sea-level fall with methane release) appear to coincide with or occur just before the Cambrian Explosion. This may indicate synchronism between the environmental changes and rapid diversification of skeletal metazoa.  相似文献

For seepage failures of dike due to water level-up and rainfall, surface infiltration and strength change induced by suction reduction are important factors; thus, numerical analysis should consider the coupling of water and soil, as well as the effect of saturation to obtain more precise failure mechanism. Based on the advanced smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) method, this work proposed a two-phase-coupled SPH model in coordination with a novel constitutive model for unsaturated soils. Then, a triaxial compression test is simulated to check the applicability of the SPH method on the soil phase. After that, the failure test of a dike due to water level-up is discretized and simulated, from which the seepage process, the distribution of maximum shear strain, the slip surface, and pore water pressure are obtained. The two-phase-coupled SPH model is also applied to a slope failure test of heavy rainfall, and the results are compared to the model test. Finally, a dike failure test due to rainfall is analyzed using the proposed SPH model to reproduce the surface infiltration and suction reduction. The proposed SPH model provides several insights of seepage failures and can be a helpful tool for the analysis of dike failures induced by water level-up and rainfall.  相似文献

We present evidence of flux variability, on both short (hours) and long (months) time-scales, of the Seyfert 2 galaxy NGC 7172. These results are based on the ASCA observation of NGC 7172 performed in 1996 May. The source was detected at a rather low flux level, about 3 times fainter than its usual state (including 1 yr before, when it was also observed by ASCA ).   The source also varied by about 30 per cent during the observation, confirming the presence of a type 1 nucleus in its centre. However, its spectrum appears to be flatter than the typical Seyfert 1 spectrum (in agreement with findings on other Seyfert 2s), posing problems for the unification model unless complex absorption is invoked.  相似文献

The purpose of this paper is to present a numerical technique to directly compute the Chandrasekhar'sH ()-function for anisotropic scattering in terms of the roots of the characteristic equations as well as the quadrature points of a certain degreen employed to approximate the definite integral involved in the basic equation. The principal feature of the algorithm proposed here is a compact computer code to enumerate n C m combinations ofn distinct integers {1,...,n} takenm at a time. With these quantities available, the coefficients of the polynomial equation of the characteristics equation can be readily computed for any given characteristic function, so that a standard technique such as the Laguerre method can be applied to find all the roots.It is shown that the results obtained for some representativeH()-functions using the present technique with relatively low-order formula (e.g.,n=7) are sufficiently accurate for all practical purposes.  相似文献

Undrained deformation of dilative sand generates negative excess pore pressure. It enhances the strength, which is called dilative hardening. This increased suction is not permanent. The heterogeneity at the grain scale triggers localisations causing local volume changes. The negative hydraulic gradient drives fluid into dilating shear zones. It loosens the soil and diminishes the shear strength. It is essential to understand the mechanism behind this internal drainage and to capture it numerically. The purpose of this paper is to develop a macroscopic constitutive relationship for the undrained deformation of saturated dense sand in the presence of a locally fully or partially drained shear band. Separate constitutive relations are generated for the band and intact material. Both time and scale dependence during pore fluid diffusion in saturated sand are captured, eliminating the mesh dependency for finite element implementations. The model is applied to the Gauss points that satisfy the bifurcation criterion. The proposed method is calibrated to recreate the undrained macroscopic response bestowed by an extra-small mesh. The microscopic behaviours inside and outside shear band predicted by this model are qualitatively in good agreement with individual material point behaviours inside and outside the shear band in the extra-small mesh. Depending on the loading rate and the shear band thickness, the response inside the band can be fully or partially drained, which governs the ultimate global strength. The calibrated model is exploited to simulate an upscaled biaxial compression test with semipermeable boundaries.  相似文献
